Born in the coastal town of Punta Alta, Argentina, Marcelo Morana, better known as DJ Patrick M, played his first club gig at the early age of sixteen.
He became active in the Buenos Aires underground scene at El Divino, now Opera Bay, and Clooby in Brazil. His deep funky house style and performances influenced the house music scene wherever he went. His love of house and tech house made him an excellent fit for the Iberican Sound.
He took what he learned and developed from South America to Miami, Florida, in 2003, and has been a bedrock of the house music scene there ever since. He expanded his horizons with residencies at Mynt, Rumi, Nikki Beach, Opium Garden, Crobar, Nerve, and Space. His performance at Creamfields in 2005 may be one of his most memorable appearances. He currently can be found spinning in Miami and South America.
With all of his successes, Patrick M is humble and gracious, giving thanks to,
“First God, my family, my booking agents, promoters, club owners. They gave me always the opportunity. The resident DJs which I learn all the time, you know I go and listen to them. When I have free time I try to go and listen, not only the resident DJs, but the guests, you know, looking online all the time. I’ve been very very thankful for all of them.”
He has tracks and collaborations with many of the hottest artists and record labels in dance music, including but not limited to,
- Stereo Productions
- Younan Music
- Nervous Records
- Subliminal Records
- Ultra Records
- Xima Records
- Incorrect Music
Released this year on Stereo Productions, is the tech house track, “Damage.” The clever use of pads prancing in and out of the thick bottom bassline wrap your ears from the get-go. Never to forget that syncopating vox from high to mid and mid to low drives itself through the traffic in ample subtlety. Combined, the thick bassline, vocals, and mid-low end bass groove fully embody this cleverly crafted monster. This track was purposely engineered to cause sheer damage when dropped upon the masses.

“quality of being unwavering as in purpose, love, or loyalty; firmness of mind, faithfulness.”
His love of and commitment to are the motivating factors in producing the Stereo Sound. And this is a common theme among the artists close to Chus & Ceballos. Their sole focus is finding a distinct sound incorporating all expressions of house music and techno. It’s as if Iberican Sound is a genre.
Oscar de Rivera shows no mercy to his avid followers with his monstrous tech house offering, “Who I Am,” out on Stereo Productions. He turns all knobs to high heat, blending down the groove and vox to the perfect auditory perception. His prescription for those primed and ready to destroy the dance floor is the four to the floor kick drum and deep percussive innuendos. The low-end bassline groove is sophisticated and complex. It’s elusive, but still, augments each beat giving us a glimpse inside the mind of this brilliant producer.

WHO I AM
Rafa Barrios was born in Sevilla, Spain, in 1986. Fourteen years later he realized his passion, music. He became a lover of the underground sound of the Iberian Peninsula. Rafa Barrios said,
“I think that my music goes beyond a simple track, I work on my tracks as if I were dancing on the dancefloor, thinking what can make many people dance. It’s what empowers me to keep working daily on a dream to reach, and every time I think more that working hard, is how you can get your deserved rewards.”
Here is a man whose dream is to find the music that makes people dance. He is a true music lover’s DJ, putting himself on the dance floor with the crowd, feeling the vibe and conveying it through the music, thus creating a shared experience. He believes if one works hard, one receives his just reward.
His style of music was closely akin to the incomparable Iberican Sound of Chus & Ceballos. When he became aware of Stereo Productions, signing with that iconic label became an important goal. In his mind, Rafa would be a part of the outfit and ignite dance floors by incorporating that sound into his tracks. What he did not realize at that time, is that he was becoming a member of the Stereo family.
Like any healthy family, Rafa was encouraged and mentored in the Stereo Sound. The love of and respect for the essence of the music are the driving forces that transcend everything else. Rafa’s work ethic, love of the music, and desire to satisfy his crowds, made him a perfect fit.
Rafa has a remarkable career, releasing tracks on such labels as:
- Stereo Productions
- Intec Digital
- KD Music
- Liebe Detail
- Toolroom Records
- Agile Recordings
As well as his own label, Dood Records.
One of our recent favorites is the recently released, “Horizont,” out on Stereo Productions. Doused in the groove is one statement that can be made the second you take a listen to this one. A rather playful sub-bass maintaining itself on a mid to low frequency is what embodies this well received offering. On the breakdown, a crafty progression that some may deem as a melodic arpeggio instantly takes a grip on you and keeps you right on your toes! Horizont doesn’t lose its Iberican tech house appeal for one second, and Rafa Barrios maintains the banner flying high for this sound.

Chus & Ceballos were always well aware of the underground house music scene in Spain and Portugal. This sound of the Iberian Peninsula, which includes not only Spain and Portugal but also Andorra and the British Crown colony of Gibraltar, became the foundation of their hallmark, Iberican Sound.
“It’s a very groovy sound, very rhythmic and percussive, that is always looking at the dancefloor. It has an electronic touch, but with soul, sometimes a bit housey, sometimes harder, but never cold. It’s hot, ‘Caliente’! This is the ‘Stereo Sound’, our sound”
Chus & Ceballos gave this quote to Resident Advisor in 2005. The Madrid duo of Jose Lopez Esteban (DJ Chus) and J. Pablo Ceballos formed over ten years ago with the distinct purpose of bringing their “Stereo Sound” to the worldwide masses. Since no man is an island, (but some are peninsulas), they knew however they could not accomplish this alone.
They formed an artist collective of world class talented dj-producers who also shared the duo’s vision for their iconic Iberican Sound and formed Stereo Productions Group. It has become the finest Spanish electronic music label in Spain, and arguably produce the hottest sound on the planet. It includes the sub-labels: Stereo, Stereo Cool, Iberican Encodings, Almibar, and Solar Music.
The Stereo Productions roster include Oscar L, Oscar de Rivera, Rafa Barrios, Patrick M, and Pakito Baeza. Not only has Chus & Ceballos collaborated with their fellow Spaniards, they have worked with other like-minded artists from all over the globe.
One of our favorite tracks is the deep house, “Abisinia,” featuring GIGI, from their debut album, Nomadas, out on Stereo Productions. The ancient female atmospheric vocals of GIGI take hold of you from the beginning and bring you deep inside the production minds of Chus & Ceballos. The sub heavy, mid to low pumping bassline adds that perfect Iberican groove that only Chus & Ceballos can render. The mesmerizing synths pulsating to the four on the floor flow ensnare the senses and entangle the mind, trapping the dance music enthusiasts in the middle of the dance floor.

You can hear it in his music: The countless nights of dance floor devastation, the appreciation for the heritage of dance music, the aggressive desire to innovate and do something new. Listen to “Foul Beats,” one of Boris’s first tracks for revered techno label SCI+TECH, and it’s all right there.
There are overnight sensations, and then there’s Boris. Baptized in the booths of New York City, the Russian native learned the craft of DJ-ing in front of the most demanding crowds in the world, developing a deep sense of what moves a packed floor in a moment, an hour, or a full night-to-morning extended session. From TKYEAR to today, he’s been a resident at every major New York nightclub (including Pacha, Crobar, and Roxy), and received award nominations for his service (Club World Awards, America’s Best DJ), not to mention the adoration of dedicated fans: His “BELIEVE” brand is based on their faith in him. He’s also released several compilations on local label Nervous; timeless capsules of the sounds of the city. (He’s set to release a new album on Nervous this March.)
But New York is just the beginning of the story. Boris is a resident at Space (Miami), a regular at BPM Festival (Mexico) and Wet Republic (Las Vegas), and has brought his particular set of skills to Japan, Korea, and Ibiza. His annual pool party Get Wet is a staple of Miami Music Week.
Now, Boris is parlaying all that international intelligence into new productions that represent a fresh musical direction. New Generation, his aptly named debut EP on SCI+TECH (the venerable underground label of legendary artist Dubfire), is deep techno with an energetic BPM: One cut of undeniable funk (“Generate”) and one of undeniable filth (“Foul Beats”), each meant to take the night to the next level. It follows up “Give Yourself” on Roger Sanchez’s Stealth, an electro-house nugget with a walloping kick drum and epic double breakdown. These are the first in a stream of new work melding harder tech sounds with dance floor dynamics.
